I am starting a collection to shut down puppy mills.I will talk on announcemts and collect at lunch.i hope this helps!

Quick update: Thanks everyone for your interest in speaking up against commercial dog breeding and raising public awareness about this sad topic. I've been getting many emails from people who regularly donate to organizations that fight against puppy mills - thank you for caring! You are all very good people!

this is a great web site that gives you info about puppy farms and how to help stop it from happining plz donate will any thing will help you dont know how much i did now go try your hardest

We are trying to save shelter dogs from the freezing cold this year by taking in used sweaters (donated to us) and then recycling them into doggy sweaters for all the dogs stuck outside the shelters this time of year. I noticed on your website you had a list of resources and I was hoping you would ad us to that list to help us spread the word about this cause. We not only want to reach dog lovers to obtain old sweaters but also shelters who may be in need of these sweaters. So please ad our blog to your resource list. http://bignutshell.com/blogs/dogproject/ You have no idea how much your support means to us and these dogs. Due to over population in many dog shelters around the country, thousands of dogs are forced to sleep outside the shelters in a damp and cold environment and some even die. Thank you. Clarissa Jones / Member of the "Save The Dogs Form The Chill Project" http://bignutshell.com/blogs/dogproject/ PS We will be taking sweater donations through next year to prepare for the following winter as well. Anything you can do to help spread the word is appreciated.

im a studend at leonard and im trying to help save dogs from puppymills but what i think about all the time is how people can live with them self when the kill dogs. so if any one has anything to say and to help me then please email me ant (smithdiamondsi@aol.com) thank you

I see no one has posted a comment in awhile. I was just searching for groups i could join to help save animals, and i stumbled upon this site. I think that it is great that you want to help these animals. If you try different methods of reaching out to people you might just be able to stop this. For instance get someone that has a myspace and twitter or something else and have them speak for you on there. Soon more people will know, and more will start to speak out. I try to help many different groups that way and we have gotten pretty far. :]

Donatetodogs.org just donated $300 to the Humane Society to the US for their animal rescue and care plan. To all of you at the HSUS, thank you for your work!

I think its wonderful what you have done.. I wanted to know if you have started a page on Facebook to raise awareness this way? If not I recommend you do because it will reach millions of people too because mass emails are sadly often deleted.. Thank you once again for your wonderful service to help this defenseless creatures ;^)

The newest addition to our directory is the National Mill Dog Rescue. Thank you for your hard work saving mill dogs.

Donate To Dogs in the Google Directory!

Dmoz.org is Google's free directory of websites. Each site is hand picked and the editorial review process often takes months. I'm glad to announce that the DonateToDogs.org site is now listed in Dmoz in the Animal Welfare / Animal Rights / Activism category.

This helps more people reach our site, which in turn, helps more animals in need!

The latest addition to the list of Canadian dog rescue groups is the Rat Terrier Rescue Canada organization. They provide veterinary care and foster homes for Rat Terriers with the ultimate goal of finding forever homes for these dogs. Just like many other dog rescues they spay/neuter dogs in their care, give them vaccinations and check for heartworms. Good job!

Find out more about them on the donations page

Lindsey: thanks for your comment.

I understand that you alone don't have the power to put an end to puppy mills. However, don't think that you can't make a difference. Simple things can have a ripple effect on issues like this.

For example tell you friends that puppies in pet stores are from these horrible places. If you use the right tone then people will listen to you and they will tell their friends. And so on.

One little puppy, somewhere, someday will be saved because you cared. You will not even know about it. The dog you saved will.

hello, I hate puppy mills and wish they should be stopped. I wish I could help out a lot but I can't really. I hope a lot of people help and I hope that puppy mills be shut down

Dear Bob: thanks for all you do and I wish you success with your mission to saving dogs!

Dear animal Friend,, Thank, Thank you it is nice to know people like you are out there helping the animals. Where would Mankind be without the companionship of our beloved animals. There are plenty of people who help the humans-who cares about the poor animals??? You guys obviously do, it makes me feel better knowing that there are so many Animal lover,,, Thank you people for what you do for them. I wish more people cared about animals. It's so sad that many people just do not care about animal suffering. I cannot say this enough: everyone needs to spay or neuter their pets. There's too many animals that go to waste because people don't want to get theirs fixed. Have a heart adopt! soooooo many animals not enough good people! *...Saving just one pet won't change the world ...but, surely, the world will change for that one pet...* May God bless you hope your having a pleasant day take care and have a wonderful time and alot of joyful moments with your pets in your life and please do keep up the good work. You Can Make a Difference! You get out of life what you put into life. We all have a voice we just need to use it. But if we stick to it we can make a difference! Have a nice Day Bob from New Zealand www Friends for the love of Animals http://aspcacommunity.ning.com/profile/BoBWinter This is a RSPCA Shelter Bay of islands,, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Rlp7pwEny4 These dogs have now exercise and no much shade and shelter. Something NEEDS to be done. “There is little that separates humans from other sentient beings—we all feel pain, we all feel joy, we all deeply crave to be alive and live freely, and we all share this planet together.” Gandhi ,,, LOVE AN ANIMAL-CHANGE THE WORLD,,, Enjoy your dogs and be grateful for the unconditional love they give you.

Hi everyone,

I'm glad to share with you the good news that the Donate to Dogs website is gaining in popularity receiving more and more hits every day to the various pages. This means that more people learn about puppy mills and find out ways to help put an end to the cruelty.

I received many encouraging emails...many people are also asking how they can help. The answer is simple: don't buy dogs from pet stores or over the Internet, tell everybody about puppy mills and how dogs suffer there (small cages, inadequate or no health care, no socialization, unsanitary conditions, cruel & money hungry owners, no exercise) and how they are left do die when they are no longer profitable. You can also send letters to your local representative of the senate or parliament asking him/her to ban commercial dog breeding.

Not a dog related issue but it's definitely a victory for animals is that the EU banned seal fur trading within its boundaries. This will drastically reduce the number of seals killed in Canada every year!

Anyways, just wanted to post a quick update, thanks everyone for your participation and enjoy your summer!

Hello, my name is Maddie. My friends and I care very much about dogs, or any animal for that matter. We feel that puppy mills must be shut down, they are terrible. We would love to help donate or help in any way that we can.

please tell me stuff is not true this is so mean i feel like i have the most excruciating pain from just reading what a puppy mill is!!!!!!!!please do something!!!!

Documentary on puppy mills. I'm not even sure which tv station did it, I only heard it from a friend but I think it's great that pet store puppies are getting some publicity on national TV.

Dear Carmelita,

Please provide some more information: where do you live? How can we contact you (email / phone?). What kind of dogs did you find?

If you are interested, I can send you some great house training tips that can help you house train dogs in about a week or so.

I found two dogs (male & female) both are about 1 year old and are about 65 pounds each. I want so much to keep these dogs but they are not house trained. My husband says I can keep them if we had a doghouse outside for them. If you know of anyone who can donate a doghouse or even wood to build a doghouse, please let me know. Thanks

Donation news: DonateToDogs.org owner Zoltan Wagner donated $500 to the Humane Society of the United States (http://stoppuppymills.org/) to support their mission to close down puppy mills. This donation is his christmas gift to friends and family this year.

Yesterday we adopted Olive, a 4 month lab-cross from the Hamilton, ON animal shelter. She is originally from Louisiana and who knows what she had been through - such a young dog ending up in Ontario from southern US. She is really happy though and active, we are getting lots of tail wagging already, which is in great part due to our 2yr old golden retriever who makes her new little sister feel at home. At the adoption center they told us that they were short of leashes so I gave them 10 new leashes and matching collars and big bucket of milkbones to thank them for what they do. A big cheers for all the workers at animal shelters - you are the best!

I live in Sri Lanka. There are so many puppies, cats, dogs on the roads. Because people throw sick puppies and dogs to the roads. I am keeping ten of them in my place and look after them. There are so many others. How can I get some help to feed them / give medicine and give shelter to these innocent dogs and to organize some seminars to educate the people? Please publish this situation on your website and try to get me some help from animal lovers in your country.

I live in salt lake city and I really want to volunteer to actually help shut down puppy mills but I don\'t know how to go about it. Does anyone have any advice?

Hi,
I just came back from a European round-trip and when I talked to my friends I learned that the number one problem is dog chaining. Illegal breeding is also an issue but people tend to pick their dogs from well-known breeders or get them from friends who have a litter of pups they don't want to keep. This is because spaying/neutering is not as common since people are not well educated about its benefits. In general, people spend a lot less money on dogs (and other pets) in Europe as us in the US and in Canada and there are a lot less pets in households than on this side of the pond. If this is a good thing or not I don't know but I thought it would make an interesting comment on your site.

Many people forwarded emails to their friends to raise awareness about puppy mills (view the email) which is great! Thanks for all your efforts!

However, please keep in mind that if you decide to start a chain email and send the message to 20+ people at once it will likely end up in spam folders. Splitting up the email into smaller batches is a great alternative.

These are all knee jerk websites. The laws are on the books to protect the animals, no new laws are needed. The problems are: 1. The states are too cheap to provide a state funded license program and to staff it with duly authorized inspectors who know the law and have the ability to work with the kennel owners. 2. Congress has failed to fund the USDA with adequate funding to place people in the field as well. 3. The average person does not know what is approved nor what is required by the AWA, most of the comments and pictures we see posted are not violations of the AWA. (Granted, without question there are places that are bad) 4. These so called private investigations are illegal, and will only eventually cause the trespassers great financial loss in the end if not jail time. Stay out of jail and write your Congressman

A press release for the website re-launch has been issued to many news agencies and online news media including the Associate Press (AP), Google and Yahoo!

The release aims to raise awareness about puppy mills. Read the press release here.

The first batch of snail-mail was stuffed into envelopes that I am about to send to 100 random Canadian and US addresses asking the recipents to start a chain email to raise awareness about puppy mills and donate to animal rescue groups fighting to shut down these horrid places. Here's an image of the letters. Also, the first email campaign started today even though the site is still being proofread and there are minor changes to be made but i got an email from a few people already and like I suspected they had no idea that puppy mills exist. Thanks everyone for your help.

Thank you for maintaining this website. As I understand you do this all for free. If people cared about dogs half as much as you do all pups would have a happy life.

The website is finally final at www.donatetodogs.org. This is the 5th domain I purchased for this project and this time I did some research beforehand:) The .com version points here, to the .org version which I find is more suitable for this site as I have no intention to make any money myself off of this website whatsoever. Previous domains (all point here now) include differentxmas.com (not generic enough, confusing), differentchristmasgift.com (not generic enough), differentbirthday.com (again, not generic enough), giftalternative.com (giftalternatives.com was taken by someone else...forgot to check)

If you are a commuter you can post a flyer at a conspicuous location where thousands of people walk by every day. Even if your flyer is removed thousands of people will have seen it by then. Do you have a flyer that people can download / print ?
